- Played for FC Aarau (Switzerland), FC Grasshoppers, Werder Bremen (Germany), 1. FC Kaiserslautern and JEF United (Japan)
- Joint top scorer with Ronald Koeman in the 1993-1994 UEFA Champions League
- Voted Oceania's Player of the Year in 1989, 1990 and 1992
- Wore the All White strip 39 times (23 were full A-international caps in which he scored 12 goals)
- Retired in 2001 after coaching stints with North Shore United, national Under-16 squad, FC Kingz ((later Auckland Kingz)
- Named Oceania Footballer of the Century
- Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to soccer, 2008 Queen's Birthday Honours
